Portland will get a chance to celebrate the life of actress and theater administrator Susan Camardo Reilly more than five months after she died in a car accident while traveling to New York for the Christmas holidays.

Her husband, Tony Reilly, lost a leg in the Dec. 23 accident on the Massachusetts Turnpike. He recently returned home to South Portland after rehabilitation with family in New Jersey.

The Reillys co-founded the American Irish Repertory Ensemble. The accident and its aftermath rocked the Portland theater community.

A memorial for Susan Reilly will begin at 1 p.m. June 7 at the Maine Irish Heritage Center, 34 Gray St., Portland. It’s a long-awaited opportunity to celebrate the life of a well-liked actress and friend, who was known for finding humor and emotional depth onstage. Offstage, she handled the administrative side of the couple’s theater company.

“I want the day to be something that Susan would be proud of,” Tony Reilly said.
