Red Sox Class A affiliate in Lowell will be sold
The owner of the Lowell Spinners minor league baseball team says he plans to sell after 19 years.
Drew Weber told the Lowell Sun it’s a “tough decision.” But Weber, now 70, said Saturday it’s harder to run the Class A team as he divides his time between homes in Lowell and New York.
He says he wants to spend more time with his three grandchildren.
A sale wouldn’t immediately affect the Spinners’ affiliation with the Boston Red Sox, which runs through the 2016 season. The team’s lease with the city for LeLacheur Park has three years remaining.

FORMULA ONE: The only thing that came close to stopping Lewis Hamilton at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Italy was an inquiry over tire pressure.
In the end – 3 1/2 hours after the Mercedes driver took the checkered flag and was interviewed on the podium by Star Wars creator George Lucas – that obstacle fell away, too.
Hamilton’s left rear tire pressure was found to be 0.3 psi below the minimum of 19.5 when measured moments before the race.
But stewards decided to take no action because they determined that Mercedes had pumped the correct amount of air into the tires before the pressure dropped on its own.
