(Johnson) Johnson

BAILEY ISLAND – After an active life of 95 years on Bailey Island, Connie passed away at home on Dec. 2, 2025, as a result of a fall.

Connie was born on July 15, 1930, to William and Ada (Doughty) Johnson. On May 30, 1951, Connie and J. Edward Johnson began a marriage that lasted 72 years. Together, they owned and operated Johnson’s Oil Service. Connie also worked for several banks and at the Bailey Island Post Office.

Besides her work, Connie was involved or volunteered with many organizations including her daughters’ school, Girl Scouts, the Methodist Youth Fellowship, the Island church, local clubs, and the Sage Swingers.

Her latest endeavor, and one that warmed her heart, was watching her weekly “Cousin’s Lunch” evolve into the Harpswell Islands Genealogy and History Center, a 501C3 organization with the vision of preserving the islands’ history for future generations.

Her absence will be deeply felt by her daughters Laurie (Eric) Smith and Beth (Bob) York; grandchildren Brooke, Megan, and Mason Smith; Benjamin (Emily) York-Brown and Margaret York; youngest sister, Diane (James) Davis; and her many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
