Frederick Wilbur Hill

SAGINAW, Texas – Frederick Wilbur Hill, a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, veteran and man of faith, passed away peacefully on Feb. 11, 2026 in Saginaw, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and community service.

Born on March 30, 1937 in Portland, Maine to Florence and Charles Hill, Fred was raised in Hiram by his mother, Florence and stepfather, George Whitehead. A pivotal moment in his early life came when the family relocated to Hollis Center due to the Great Maine Forest Fire. He graduated from Hollis Center High School in 1955.

Fred proudly served in the United States Marine Corps aboard the USS Boston including a deployment during the Cuban Bay of Pigs invasion. He was especially proud of traversing the Arctic Circle in 1960. Honorably discharged in 1962, Fred always considered himself a lifelong Marine and supported Marine charities.

Fred married Judith Stevens in 1961 and together they raised three children, Stephen, Scott, and Susan. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1964 with a degree in mechanical engineering and worked for Shell Oil Company for his entire professional career. He was also a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Fred served the communities in which he lived in leadership positions with the Klein Volunteer Fire Department and as an emergency medical technician on the local ambulance service. Fred’s passions were his wife of 64 years, extended family, the United States Marine Corps, woodworking and sailing.

He was predeceased by his parents, Florence Whitehead and Charles Hill, stepfather, George Whitehead, stepmother, Edith Hill; brother, Charlie, and sister, Cheryl.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Judith; sons Stephen (Kristine) and Scott (Stefanie), daughter Susan (Ken); brother, Leon Whitehead, sister, Dorothy Powers; and grandchildren Jacob, Spencer, Sarah, Sawyer, Wesley, Skyler, Shafer, and Summer. Fred (Baba/Grampy Hill) was loved by his grandchildren and regarded fondly by all his nieces and nephews.
