I am a writer who spent many summers on Lake Damariscotta.

I think it’s important to point out that before I wrote a book about an escape from Auschwitz, I had no idea that the Nazis had commandeered what we Americans knew as the “Jolly Roger” as one of their deathly symbols. And neither did Graham Platner.
