TITLE: Prepress Technician / Output Operator

DEPARTMENT: Operations/ Prepress

REPORTS TO: Prepress Manager

POSITION TYPE: Full Time

POSITION OBJECTIVES/SUMMARY:
Prepress team member responsible for outputting pages to Platemaking and posting the E-edition, while ensuring quality reproduction. Outputs and proofs products while meeting established deadlines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Creates publications of the MTM print products using the Output System for processing pages to Platemaking. Includes assigning color positions, double trucks, pairing tabs.
  2. Assembles electronic versions of appropriate products for upload to the e-edition site.
  3. Produces and exports Classified and Obit pages from the Advertising System in preparation for outputting to Platemaking. Includes applying rules as needed.
  4. Tracks call in & output time for pages. Produces page flow email report on a nightly basis tracking deadline adherence and problems encountered.
  5. Coordinates with Editorial on Obit placement and run-over as needed.
  6. Documents procedures relating to the job. Updates as needed.
  7. Communicates with Prepress supervisor and co-workers to contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the department.
  8. Communicates with external departments and customers to ensure highest level of service is delivered.
  9. Other duties and functions as assigned reasonably associated with the position.

 POSITION COMPETENCIES:

  • Technical skills including:

o   Proficiency with Page Output software.

o   Proficiency with Advertising Production software.

o   Experience with advanced desktop publishing applications such as
Adobe InDesign, Photoshop & Acrobat.

o   Experience with Editorial Front End System for tasks related to Prepress

o   Experience with electronic communications; email, browsers, ftp

  • Other prior experience including but not limited to: database systems, excellent communication skills, listening, problem solving abilities and the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

High School education or the equivalent work experience.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, the position may be required to assist the team with event set up or other marketing initiatives which may require occasional lifting, twisting, bending and carrying of materials up to 20 pounds to/from a venue or between offices.
