Sports Reporter – Press Herald

The Portland Press Herald seeks an outstanding, accomplished journalist to cover local sports.

We need a talented, curious, motivated reporter who can produce breaking news, strong enterprise pieces, compelling narratives, data-driven trend stories and investigations. Yes, you will do game stories, features and maybe some commentary, but we value enterprise reporting above all else.

You are the right candidate for this job if you can work comfortably in all the arenas that 21st century journalism demands: You break news on the web and share it through social media. You spend as much time with high school, college and professional athletes as with coaches and athletic directors. You see sports as a way to tell stories, not just report scores and standings. You take video highlights with your phone. You unearth trends, employ your database and investigative skills, and use news and sports events as launch pads for blockbuster Page One tales and stories that lead our website. You are driven by competitiveness, and you’re drawn to multimedia storytelling that incorporates interactives.

If you are the best at what you do and share our zeal for ambitious journalism, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. You will be part of Maine’s finest news organization, and you will live in a region with an extraordinarily high quality of life, world-class restaurants, endless outdoor recreation and three minor-league sports teams. Daily experience is required.

We offer:

  • Health, dental and vision insurance
  • Short/long-term disability and life insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 40(k) with company match

MaineToday Media is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are an equal opportunity employer.
