BATH — United Way of Mid Coast Maine hopes to raise $1.9 million in its 2015 campaign, which it kicked off Wednesday at the Maine Maritime Museum.

The goal is less than the nearly $1.92 million it hoped to raise last year. The organization ended up securing about $1,500 more than its target, according to Communications Specialist Becky Bohanan-Dulik.

Lennie Burke and Bob Beaumont, a couple from Brunswick, are leading the campaign, the theme of which is “Together We Can.”

The organization supports social service agencies in Sagadahoc and Lincoln counties, and Brunswick and Harpswell in Cumberland County. Proceeds from this year’s campaign will go toward programs addressing food insecurity, respite care, literacy, job support for those with disabilities, home weatherization, and access to child care that is both affordable and of high quality.

“Everyone has the opportunity to give back to the community through the United Way campaign,” Burke, vice president and market manager of Norway Savings Bank, said in an Aug. 31 press release. “This is a full community effort that everyone is invited to join – I know people who have benefited from United Way funded services who give back through the campaign and enjoy doing so.”

“United Way has a commitment to understanding local needs and is helping local people,” she added.

Workplaces around the Mid-Coast are asked each year to make a presentation on behalf of United Way to their employees, who can donate through payroll deductions. Donations from contributors who are not involved in a workplace campaign can go to United Way of Mid Coast Maine, 34 Wing Farm Parkway, Bath, ME 04530.

The campaign concludes Nov. 12.
