Manuel Peña and Karen Massmussen of Portland will open a new take-out business called Taco Trio at 119 Ocean St. in South Portland’s Knightville neighborhood. The business is in the former Zeta Cafe on Legion Square. According to Peña, they will serve traditional Mexican food from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and hope to open in about a month.

“This will be like the traditional food you get on the streets of Mexico,” he said. “Soft corn tacos and traditional spices.” For now it will be a lunch take-out with brunch once a week, but they hope to offer dinner service in the future.

Fore Street, 288 Fore St., Portland, was nominated for Outstanding Restaurant and chef/owner Sam Hayward was nominated for Outstanding Chef in the 2011 James Beard Foundation Awards. Two other Portland chefs, Demos Regas of Emilitsa at 547 Congress St., and Krista Kern Desjarlais of Bresca at 111 Middle St., are semi-finalists for Best Chef in the Northeast. Other Maine semifinalists are Melissa Kelly of Primo in Rockland, Brian Hill of Francine in Camden and Megan Chase, Penelle Chase, Phoebe Chase and Ted LaFage of Chase’s Daily in Belfast. Finalists will be announced on March 21.

Hugo’s, 88 Middle St., Portland, will serve two-for-one, six-course blind tasting menus on Tuesdays through Thursdays every week through March 31. Normally, the cost is $85 per person, but until March 31 the cost is $42.50 per person. Hugo’s is open Tuesday through Saturday for dinner starting at 5:30 p.m.

Borealis Breads, 182 Ocean Ave., Portland, will host bean and spaghetti suppers every Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. and within a few weeks will offer brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Kelley Sevigney, chief operations officer, said the meals “are a way to support the neighborhood and introduce people to the restaurant.”

In Yarmouth, Clayton’s Cafe, 447 Route 1, is planning to upgrade its interior, add a few more seats and reduce the retail sale items. Kitchen manager Andrew Pettingill said in addition to favorite menu items there will be a few new sandwiches to look forward to. The restaurant will not close during the renovations and the improvements will be completed by March, he said.

Also in Yarmouth, SeaGrass Bistro has moved from Forest Falls Drive to 305 Route 1, next to Maine Coffee Roasters. New hours are Tuesday through Saturday starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Down-East Village Restaurant, 730 Route 1 in Yarmouth, has closed and owners Ed and Sue Farrell will lease the space to new owners who plan to open Canelli’s Italian Restaurant in the spring. The Yarmouth Town Council approved a liquor license for the new restaurant on Feb. 17.

In Brunswick, No. 10 Water at the Captain Daniel Stone Inn will feature a gourmet pizza night every Tuesday. Customers can enjoy a bottomless salad and half-priced beverages for $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under; kids under 5 eat for free.

And back in South Portland, Buffalo Wild Wings is slated to open in the beginning of March at 85 Western Ave., near the Maine Mall and the Portland International Jetport.
