FALMOUTH — Town councilors elected a new chairman and vice chairman Monday at their first meeting since the June 9 election.

The council also discussed a possible easement to allow the owners of the proposed Rivalries restaurant at the corner of Hat Trick Drive, Clearwater Drive and Farm Gate Road to construct a sidewalk on their side of Hat Trick Drive.

Councilor David Goldberg, who previously was vice chairman, was unanimously elected chairman at the organizational meeting.

Goldberg succeeds Councilor Karen Farber.

“I appreciate it,” Goldberg said, accepting the gavel from Farber. He also took a moment to congratulate Farber and Councilor Edward Kitchel on their re-election and election, respectively, to the council.

Councilor Russell Anderson was also unanimously elected vice chairman for the Council.

In rapid succession, councilors also approved appointments to various committees, and agreed to move two meetings in the coming calendar year because of holiday conflicts.

A previously scheduled Sept. 14 meeting was moved to Sept. 16 because of Rosh Hashanah, and an Oct. 12 meeting was rescheduled to Oct. 14 because of Columbus Day.

Hat Trick Drive sidewalk

While no action was taken, the council had a brief discussion about allowing an easement for the property owners of the proposed Rivalries sports bar and restaurant to build a sidewalk on their side of Hat Trick Drive.

Town Manager Nathan Poore said the town previously planned to construct a sidewalk on the other side of street, nearest to Wal-Mart.

Councilors seemed largely agreeable to the proposal.

Goldberg asked Poore if the the construction on Hat Trick Drive would coincide with construction of Rivalries, and Poore said the sidewalk would likely come first, by “a month or two.”

Poore also said the property owners are looking at storm water drainage improvements, as well as possible street lighting, landscaping and on-street parking on Hat Trick Drive. All were requested by the Planning Board at its last meeting.

The easement will be developed at a later date.
