Highest Achieving Graduates

Bisson was a High Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a senior. She was a member of the varsity soccer and softball teams and participated in the yearly all-school musical, Upper School Chorus and annual student-directed One-Act Plays. Bisson will attend Saint MichaelâÂÂs College (Colchester, VT) this fall and is the daughter of Lisa and Michael Bisson of Lewiston, ME.

Bourget was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a senior. She was the recipient of The Lorimer Scholarship Prize, which âÂÂhonors a young woman pursuing her education in theater,â and co-recipient of the Award for Excellence in Drama. Bourget parlayed her passion for the musical and performing arts into lead roles in HebronâÂÂs all-school musicals Working (2012) and Cinderella (2013) and was a valued member of the Hebeegeebees, HebronâÂÂs select student a capella ensemble, and Upper School Chorus, as well as a frequent soloist at school meetings and special assemblies. Known for her musicianship, Bourget played violin with the Upper School Orchestra and even played the ukulele on one occasion. She helped lead the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Student-Directed One Act Plays and was a member of the varsity soccer and softball teams. In softball, she scored the winning home run that helped Hebron clinch the Golden Ball Trophy in a victory over Kents Hill and earned All-League nods in 2012. Bourget will attend The University of South Florida (Tampa, FL) this fall. She is the daughter of Michelle and Scott Bourget of Hebron, ME.

Geismar was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a junior. Geismar was the recipient of the Hebron Academy Cup, given to the member of the senior class âÂÂwho, in the opinion of the faculty, represents the finest spirit of scholastic effort, who has in athletics and all school activities shown a high degree of excellence, and who has in personal relations with the school shown a commendable spirit of devotion, high ideals, friendliness, endeavor and responsibility.â He was a dorm proctor and member of the cross country, alpine skiing and junior varsity lacrosse teams as well as the schoolâÂÂs gay-straight ally group and drama production. In skiing, Geismar was named captain and Most Valuable Skier for the boysâ team, which placed 3rd in the MAISAD Championship and 4th out of fifteen schools at New Englands this past season. In 2012 Geismar was recipient of the Compton Prize in Languages for âÂÂpassion, persistence and accomplishment in the study of languagesâ and the Dartmouth Book Award, which recognizes a student âÂÂwho combines academic excellence with outstanding accomplishment in another field.â Geismar will attend Dartmouth College (Hanover, NH) this fall. He is the son of Susan and John Geismar of Minot, ME

Hearn was a High Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a senior. Hearn was the recipient of The Risman Honor Award, for her âÂÂdiligence of academic accomplishment, determination in athletic endeavor and outstanding good character.â Hearn co-captained the varsity field hockey and lacrosse teams; she was recipient of a CoachâÂÂs Award and earned All-League nods for her efforts in field hockey this past season and in lacrosse last year. She was also a dorm proctor and member of Green Key, HebronâÂÂs tour guide group. In 2012 Hearn was recipient of the Williams Book Award which recognizes a junior who has âÂÂdemonstrated academic and intellectual leadership and who has contributed in a substantial fashion to the extracurricular life of the school.â Hearn will attend Colby College (Waterville, ME) this fall. She is the daughter of Heather and Joseph Hearn of Auburn, ME.

Hews was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a senior. He was the recipient of the Milton G. Wheeler Good Fellowship Award in recognition of his âÂÂhighest standards of citizenship and integrityâ and a dorm proctor. Hews was a valued member of the cross country and track teams and plans to pole vault at the collegiate level. Hews played percussion with HebronâÂÂs jazz ensemble and participated in the schoolâÂÂs gay-straight ally group and student-directed One Act Plays. In 2012 he received the Middlebury Book Award which recognizes a member of the junior class who has excelled academically and has shown dedication to his or her community, a promise of leadership potential, and a commitment to the pursuit of a liberal education.â Hews will attend Colby College (Waterville, ME) this fall. He is the son of Deborah and Mark Hews of Poland, ME.

Kinens was a High Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a senior. She was the recipient of the Tyler-Grandmaison Scholarship Prize, âÂÂgiven to a graduating senior from Maine who has overcome obstacles and who has made a positive contribution to the school communityâ and was co-recipient of the Reed Award for her devotion to Hebron Athletics. Kinens is a gifted photographer who earned Gold Key honors for her submissions to the nationally respected Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. She was a key presence on her varsity soccer, ice hockey and lacrosse teams and was a member of Green Key, HebronâÂÂs tour guide group. She also played violin with the Upper School Orchestra. Kinens will attend University of New England (Biddeford, ME) this fall and is the daughter of Lee Ann and Robert Kinens of Houlton, ME.

Randall was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a junior. She was the recipient of the Bernat Memorial Award, a book to be awarded annually to a senior for further studies in the humanities, and of the Award for Academic Excellence in English. She was co-recipient of the Award for Excellence in Drama. Randall played a memorable Queen in Cinderella (2013) and had multiple roles in 2012âÂÂs Working, HebronâÂÂs recent all-school musicals. She is a leader in the vocal arts as well as the performing arts, singing with the Hebeegeebees - HebronâÂÂs select a capella ensemble â and the Upper School Chorus, and at numerous assemblies and school gatherings. Her talents extend to the athletic fields, where she was named Most Improved Player on the 2012 varsity girlsâ soccer team and a member of the softball squad. RandallâÂÂs photography was recognized by the nationally respected Scholastic Art and Writing Awards this year. She was also a dorm proctor and member of GSTA-The Bridge, HebronâÂÂs gay-straight ally group. In 2012 Randall was co-recipient of a Harvard Book Award in recognition of âÂÂexcellence in scholarship and high character.â She will attend Skidmore College (Saratoga Springs, NY) this fall. She is the daughter of Elizabeth and John Randall of New Gloucester, ME.

Taylor was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a senior. He was the recipient of Awards for Academic Excellence in History and in Religion & Ethics. Taylor joined Hebron Academy for a postgraduate year, making significant contributions to the life of the School through his participation in GSTA-The Bridge, HebronâÂÂs gay-straight ally group. Taylor was also a member of the junior varsity boysâ soccer team and the yearbook staff. He will attend Bowdoin College (Brunswick, ME) this fall.

Teixeira was a High Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a senior. She was the recipient of the Charles & Amy Dwyer Memorial Award as the outstanding scholar-athlete of the senior class. Co-captain of the varsity girlsâ ice hockey team, Teixeira earned a CoachâÂÂs Award for her efforts on the ice and selflessness toward her teammates; she was also a member of the varsity girlsâ soccer and lacrosse teams. Texeira will attend Saint MichaelâÂÂs College (Colchester, VT) this fall and is the daughter of Kim and Ray Teixeira of Lewiston, ME.

Wang was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a senior. She was the recipient of the Award for Excellence in Art, having been recognized with silver keys by the nationally respected Scholastic Art and Writing Awards this year for her drawings and painting. Wang played violin with the Upper School Orchestra and in 2012 earned the Colby Book Award, âÂÂgiven to an outstanding member of the Junior Class who, through a combination of superior academic achievement, social conscience and service, is a promising example of how an educated person will contribute to the world community.â She contributed to the all-school musical production of Cinderella and the girlsâ junior varsity soccer and tennis teams. Wang will attend Gettysburg College (Gettysburg, PA) this fall. She is the daughter of Xuejun Wang and Haina Xu of Ningbo, China.

Xu was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a junior. He was the recipient of the Awards for Excellence in Science and in Mathematics as well as the Outdoor Leadership Prize. Xu was a participant of HebronâÂÂs Outdoor Education program and a high scorer for HebronâÂÂs Class D Championship Math Team, the number one squad statewide for small schools eight years running. He came in 22nd out of 380 seniors at this yearâÂÂs Maine State Meet in April. In 2012 Xu was co-recipient of a Harvard Book Award in recognition of âÂÂexcellence in scholarship and high characterâ and recipient of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal Award for his achievements in mathematics and science. Xu will attend University of Washington (Seattle, WA) this fall. He is the son of Jie Shen and Hechun Xu of Hangzhou, China.

Zhou was a High Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society as a senior. He was the highest achieving member of HebronâÂÂs Class D Championship Math Team, the number one squad statewide for small schools eight years running. Zhou finished the year first in the state of Maine and was the highest scoring student in the regular season among schools participating in HebronâÂÂs league. Zhou is one of just three students who will represent Hebron Academy at the national math meet at Pennsylvania State University later this year. In 2012 Zhou was the recipient of the Dr. Louis Friedman Mathematics Prize; he was a dorm proctor and member of the Outdoor Education and after-school art programs. He will attend Boston College (Chestnut Hill, MA) this fall and is the son of Lihua Liu and Bangyou Zhou of Beijing, China.
Senior Class Awards
ALL-SCHOOL AWARDS
The HEBRON ACADEMY CUP is given to that member of the Senior Class who in the opinion of the faculty represents the finest spirit of scholastic effort, who has in athletic competition shown a high degree of excellence, and who has in personal relations with the school shown a commendable spirit of devotion, high ideals, friendliness, endeavor and responsibility which qualities Hebron Academy holds in the highest esteem. In 2013, the Hebron Cup is awarded to Bradley Raymond Geismar.
The RISMAN HONOR AWARD is given by George Broudy of the class of 1929 to honor his Hebron roommate, Edward R. Risman of the Class of 1930, to distinguish a member of the Senior Class whose diligence of academic accomplishment, determination in athletic endeavor and outstanding good character merited recognition. In 2013 awarded to Hannah Maguire Hearn.
The PHEMISTER AWARD is a book from the funds given in memory of David Kent Phemister II, President of the Class of 1962, by his friends and classmates to honor a Senior who has shown outstanding leadership and responsibility. In 2013 awarded to Ju Hee Kim.
The MILTON G. WHEELER GOOD FELLOWSHIP AWARD is given by George Broudy of the Class of 1929 to honor Milton G. Wheeler of the Class of 1927 in order to recognize a member of the Senior Class for highest standards of citizenship and integrity. In 2013 awarded to Joshua Daniel Hews.
The ERNEST SHERMAN AWARD is presented in memory of "Jack" Sherman, for many years chef-steward of Hebron Academy, to a member of the Hebron Academy community who best exhibits dedication to Hebron Academy and personal concern for fellow students and the community. In 2012 awarded to Elijah Dickson Moreshead.
The EDWARD TATE II GREEN KEY AWARD is a book to be given in the name of Edward Henry Tate II of the Class of 1957 to honor a member of the Senior Class for his/her marked qualities of humanity. In 2013 awarded to Ryan Timothy Hallice.
The LEYDEN AWARD honors a senior who has grown as a person and as a student, who has overcome obstacles and whose concern for others and for the Hebron community exemplifies the care and contributions of the Leyden family for more than thirty years. In 2013 awarded to Haley Avon Grimmer.
The SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE is given for outstanding excellence in general scholarship for the Class of 2013. Awarded to Kexiang Xu.
The REGIS A. LEPAGE SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE is given by Lepage Bakeries of Auburn, Maine in honor of Regis A. Lepage, a generous supporter of post-Secondary study for young people in the belief that strength comes through education. The prize is awarded to a student at Hebron Academy from the surrounding area. Awarded in 2013 to Jeffrey Ray Turcotte.
The TYLER / GRANDSMAISON SCHOLARSHIP, supporting early success in college is underwritten by the MELMAC Foundation and is given to a graduating senior from the State of Maine who has overcome obstacles and has made a positive contribution to the school community and extra-curricular activities, has demonstrated a commitment to public service and has the potential to make a difference in the world. Awarded in 2013 to Abigail Theresa Kinens.
The BERNAT MEMORIAL AWARD is a book given by the parents of Emile Robert Bernat of the Class of 1960 to be awarded annually to a Senior for further studies in the humanities. The 2013 recipient is Sydney Rose White Randall.
The LORIMER SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE is given in memory of Louise Pinkham Lorimer, descendant of William Barrows, innovative woman of theater and film, advocate for the environment, and devoted summer resident of the Hebron community. The prize honors a young woman pursuing her education in theater or environmental sciences. In 2013, awarded to Lillian Abbott Bourget.
The AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN DRAMA distinguishes a student whose attainment in Hebron's theatrical productions has merited recognition. Awarded this year to Lillian Abbott Bourget and Sydney Rose White Randall..
The OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP PRIZE is presented to a graduating student who exhibits kindness to others, self-respect and self-sufficiency, the ability to make and execute difficult decisions, and a profound concern for the natural environment. This year the recipient is Kexiang Xu.
The YEARBOOK AWARD is awarded to a member of the Spectator to acknowledge dedication to assignments, willingness to serve, and commitment to producing a unique yearbook. This year the recipient is Kathryn Mary Couture.
ATHLETIC AWARDS
The CHARLES AND AMY DWYER MEMORIAL AWARD honors the memory of Charles C. and Amy W. Dwyer who were members of the Hebron Academy community for more than half a century; he as a student, teacher, coach, and she as tutor, counselor and librarian. The prize is awarded to an outstanding scholar-athlete, and this year the 2013 recipient is Taylor Ann Teixeira.
The ATHLETIC AWARD is given for superior performance in the field of athletics, for outstanding cooperation, leadership and fair play. In 2013 awarded to Matthew Francis Bouchard.
The BESSIE FENN AWARD is given for superior performance in the field of athletics, outstanding cooperation, leadership and fair play. In 2013 awarded to Haley Avon Grimmer.
The REED AWARDS are given to an outstanding young man and woman in recognition of fine spirit, improvement in skill, devotion to athletic teams, and an unselfish determination to contribute to Hebron's athletic success. In 2012, the recipients are Patrick Francis Shelley and Abigail Theresa Kinens.
