    High Honor Students

    Nicholas Ames of Kennebunkport is the son of Timothy & Nancy Ames. His athletic activities include lacrosse, figure skating, snowboarding and ice hockey. Nicholas' community service includes volunteer coaching at Little/Big Dogs and lacrosse camp over the summer. He was a member of the KHS band his freshman and sophomore years and is an IB Diploma student. Nicholas plans to attend the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and major in Engineering (Environmental) and minor in Economics.

    Jacob Bear of Kennebunk, son of John & Dawn Bear, is a member of Student Council and is active in cross country, snowboarding and baseball. Jake participated in an internship with Corning Life Sciences in his senior year. He was awarded a gold medal and earned a summa cum laude certificate for his performance on the National Latin Examination. Jake was awarded a Centennial Scholarship and a scholarship from the College of Engineering at the University of Rhode Island where he plans to study Ocean Engineering.

    Lauren K. Beatty of Kennebunk, daughter of Marilynn Beatty, is a member of the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble and the 2012 Maine All State Band. She received an AP Scholar with Honor Award and received the Certificate of Appreciation from the Society of Women Engineers. Lauren plans to attend Macalester College.

    Janelle Marie Bouchard of Kennebunk is the daughter of Andrew Sr. and Debbie Bouchard. She was a teaching instructor/aid and assistant instructor at the Frozen Ropes Training Center, where she is a starting catcher. She has served as a Sunday School assistant. Her many athletic activities include 4 years on varsity softball, 3 years varsity basketball, first year field hockey goalie and numerous awards including SMAA Defensive POY, Scholar Athlete, All Academic Team, Captain and NFHSA All Academic Team and MIAAA Scholar Athlete Award. Janelle has received an athletic scholarship playing Division I softball for the 2012 Valparaiso "Crusaders" and is planning to study Pre-Law & Political Science at Valparaiso University in Indiana.

    Katharine Lee Courville of Kennebunkport is the daughter of Susan M. Mulsow and Robert H. Courville. She has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Rampage, Historian of Student Council, Treasurer of NHS, President of Peer Connections, and a member of Captains' Club and Model State Legislature. Katharine has participated in track and field. She was a St. Michael's College Board award recipient, a member of the KHS Political Affairs Club, Mock Trial team, and was in the KHS Spring musicals. She plans on attending Clark University in Worcester, Mass., majoring in psychology. Her graduate school plans are to obtain a law degree and become an attorney.

    Martha Dempsey of Kennebunk is the daughter of Richard and Patricia Dempsey. A member of the KHS Interact Club for 2 years, she participated in a 2 week trip to the Dominican Republic to repair and build homes. Martha was also on the varsity soccer and track & field teams at KHS. She will attend the University of New Hampshire in the fall to study Hospitality Management.

    Robert Eckland of Kennebunk is the son of Kevin and Jean Eckland and a member of the Executive Council and Vice-President of the National Honor Society. Robert participated in baseball, basketball and cross country, serving as basketball and cross country captain his senior year. He is the recipient of the Coach's Award for basketball and cross country. Robert is a member of the Mock Trial team, Senior Video, the winner of the Yale Book Award, the SMAA Citizenship Award and an AP Scholar. He is also active in his church. Robert will be attending the University of Notre Dame.

    Lauren Teller Errico of Kennebunk is the daughter of Tom and Liz Errico. Lauren has been a member of the soccer, lacrosse and ski teams. In 2011 she earned the Brandeis University Book Award, the Highest Academic Distinction Award, All Academic Team Lacrosse, US Lacrosse Academic All American, the Scholar Athlete Award for Skiing, Most Improved Skier on the KHS Ski Team and Scholar Athlete Awards in lacrosse and soccer for four years. She was also the ice hockey manager and an art aid. Lauren will be attending the Moore School of International Business at the University of South Carolina.

    Alivia Rose Gould of Kennebunk is the daughter of Steven and Teresa Gould. Alivia is a member of Executive Council, Student Council, National Honor Society, Captains' Club, and Math Team. She has also participated in soccer, basketball, field hockey and track. Alivia received an AP Scholar with Honor Award, SMAA Citizenship Award, Smith College Book Award, the Scholastic Art and Writing Award in 2009 and 2012, and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association High School National Academic Squad. Alivia plans to attend Lehigh University in Pennsylvania to study Chemical Engineering.

    John Nicholas Grillo of Kennebunk is the son of Robert & Barbara Grillo. John has been a member of the Executive Council, and his athletic activities include varsity soccer, varsity lacrosse & varsity & Junior varsity basketball and hockey. John is a certified youth soccer referee and a member of the Surf Club. John has volunteered at youth soccer clinics and youth basketball summer camps. He has received awards for Three-Sport Athlete and Scholar Athlete. Other special recognitions include Highest Academic Distinction Award, MPA All-Academic Team & High Honor Roll. John is a recipient of the Pulp & Paper Foundation Scholarship & the University of Maine Merit Scholarship. He plans to attend the University of Maine Chemical Engineering Program.

    Nicholas Haritos of Kennebunk is the son of Nick Haritos and Lori Lessard. Niko has been a member of the golf and baseball teams at KHS and will be attending the University of Maine Orono in the fall.

    Fay Ts'ui-shih Hseih-Lewis of Kennebunk, daughter of Chia-ju Hsieh and Scott Lewis, has served as the Film Club President, Eko Club Secretary and the School Fashion Show director. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is a volunteer at the Kennebunk Free Library. Fay will attend the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. She is interested in studio arts, film and fashion, but has not yet declared a major.

    Teddy Jandro of Kennebunk is the son of Mark and Nancy Jandro. Ted participated in the International Baccalaureate Programme at Kennebunk High School. He is a member of the Radio Club, providing technical support. A member of the South Congregational Church Youth Group, Ted travelled to Washington, D.C. to assist the homeless and to the Gulf Coast to rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. He has also volunteered locally for Habitat for Humanity. Teddy will be attending Clark University where he plans on studying computer science.

    Emily Junker of Kennebunkport, daughter of Bill and Maria Junker, is a 4-year member of Executive Council, a staff writer for The Rampage, Student Representative on the RSU21 School Board, the RSU 21 Curriculum Committee, and the Captains' Club. Emily has been an active participant in the theatre program at KHS and the Mock Trial team. She received the Wellesley College Book Award, is a National Merit Commended Scholar and an AP Scholar. Emily will be attending Muhlenberg College on a President's Scholarship in the fall.

    Madelyn L. Kasprzak of Kennebunk is the daughter of Stephen & Melissa Kasprzak. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Madelyn was a three-sport athlete playing soccer, basketball, and softball throughout her 4 years at KHS. She has always had a passion for basketball and volunteers to help coach younger players each summer. Madelyn will attend James Madison University on a pre-med track with plans to continue in pediatric oncology.

    David Kerschensteiner of Kennebunk is the son of Gary Kerschensteiner and Gale Bielecki. David has been a staff writer for the Rampage, a three-year varsity basketball player, serving as team captain as a senior. He received the SMAA All Academic Team Award, and has coached summer basketball camp for elementary and middle school players. He also has participated in the Consider Engineering Program at the University of Maine. David received a full tuition Pulp and Paper Scholarship to attend the University of Maine to study chemical engineering.

    Hannah King of Kennebunk is the daughter of Kalvin & Maureen King. She is the Student Council treasurer as well as a member of the National Honor Society. She was the captain of both the varsity softball and field hockey teams and a member of the varsity girls' basketball team. Hannah will be attending Trinity College in Hartford, CT, where she will double major in Psychology and Public Policy and Law. She hopes to work for Teach for America. She will also be playing field hockey and softball for Trinity.

    Annaliese Lemieux-Kaplan of Kennebunk, daughter of Marc Kaplan, D.O. and Anne E. Lemieux, is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, YCCC Student Senate, a Day One Student Facilitator, and a YCCC Dual Enrollment Early College Program participant. Annaliese has been a member of the tennis and volleyball teams, the Maine Juniors Volleyball team, and participated in ballet, jazz and ice skating. Other organizations include: the Poetry Out Loud Contest, school winner; Interact Club; Community Harvest Board of Directors; and Sea Road Church Sunday School volunteer and greeter. Annaliese will be attending Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina to major in Communications. She is the recipient of a Presidential Merit Scholarship and is interested in working in radio or television.

    Abbey Leonardi of Kennebunkport, daughter of Jack & Lynda Leonardi, is a member of the Captains' Club, French Club, NHS and School Newspaper. She has excelled in track with numerous championship awards including six-time state Class A outdoor champion. She is a four-time state Class A champion in Cross Country (only female ever to do this); three-time Footlocker National finalist (only athlete from Maine,male or female, to do so); six-time Gatorade Athlete of the Year; and she holds several course records throughout Maine. Abbey has volunteered with the Barbara Bush Cancer Center, fundraised for the people of Darfur and served as a coach with the summer track program. Abbey received a Track & Academic Scholarship and will attend the University of Oregon.

    Alex Leonardi of Kennebunkport is the daughter of Jack & Lynda Leonardi and is a member of the Captains Club, NHS and School Newspaper. Her athletic activities include being a 4-year starter, 2-time captain of the soccer team as well as leading goal scorer, All State first team, SMAA MVP & first team and National Super Y Camp Florida all-tournament team. She was also a two-year member of track and field. Alex has volunteered at the Barbara Bush Cancer Center and as a soccer assistant. She received a soccer scholarship and plans to attend Stony Brook University.

    Stephanie Lewia of Kennebunkport is the daughter of Bruce and Jennifer Lewia. She is a four-year member of the Wind Ensemble and Chamber Choir and was in six theater productions, including four musicals. She is a Peer Helper, a member of NHS and serves on the 2012 Executive Council. Stephanie has studied bassoon, voice and piano privately and has been in the Maine All State Chorus for 2 years. Stephanie will be attending Fairfield University majoring in biology.

    Alexandra Macisso of Kennebunk is the daughter of Thomas & Christine Macisso. Her student leadership activities include NHS, KHS Interact Club, leadership role in the Chamber Choir, Wind Ensemble, Visual & Performing Arts actor and singer and intern for KES "Kids Choir". Alexandra plans to major in Music Education at the University of Southern Maine.

    Charles Merry of Kennebunkport is the son of John and Jennifer Merry. Charlie is a member of the KHS Soccer and Hockey teams and is Captain of the Tennis Team. As a senior he was a Hockey All Star Game Choice. He has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, his church, the Maine Veteran's Home and is a member of the State All Academic Hockey Team. Charlie will be attending Saint Michael's College in the fall to study business and finance.

    Sarah E. Murphy of Kennebunkport is the daughter of Timothy & Wendy Murphy. Her student leadership activities include NHS, Interact Club, Invisible Children, and Titan Challenge: Junior Achievement 2012. Her athletic activities include soccer, volleyball, track and field and swimming. Sarah has done community service and project work with Kennebunk Land Trust, the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, and the First Congregational Church. Sarah plans to attend the College of Math & Engineering at the University of New Hampshire with plans to earn a Master's in Math Education.

    Samuel Oransky of Kennebunkport is the son of Lori & Charles Oransky. His athletic activities include participating on the Golf Team and being a member of the SMAA All-Academic Team. His special recognitions include Math Team high scorer for 4 years, 3-year member of the national American Regions Mathematics League Maine All-Star Team, National Merit Scholarship Commended student, AP Scholar, High Honors all 4 years, and recipient of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal & the Rochester Institute of Technology Computing Medal. Sam will attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

    Tobey Krista Ratoff of Kennebunk is the daughter of John & Kelly Ratoff. Her athletic activities include varsity soccer, Alpine Ski Racing where she was the MVP and Captain, Maine State Slalom Champion and Maine All State Team and Lacrosse. Tobey was in the Fiji Leadership Challenge in the summer of 2011 and was awarded the Dartmouth Book Award in 2011. Tobey will be attending the University of Michigan on a Navy ROTC Nursing Scholarship and will serve in the Navy as a nurse after college.

    Hannah L. Rolland of Kennebunk is the daughter of Joseph and Jane Rolland and is the Salutatorian of the Class of 2012. She is a member of National Honor Society, President of the EKO Club, and Treasurer of the Interact Club. Hannah participated in both varsity and club volleyball and is a Kennebunk Twirler. She is a member of the Chamber Choir and Wind Ensemble; South Congregational Church; and a recipient of the Maine Principal's Award and the Daughters of the American Revolution Citizenship Award. Hannah will attend Elon University in North Carolina as an Elon Fellow majoring in Environmental Studies and International Studies.

    Edward Sharood of Kennebunk is the son of John and Sandra Sharood. Ed has been a class officer, President of the KHS National Honor Society, and Political Affairs Club President. He is a member of Student Council, School Senate and has participated in the Jazz Band, Model State Legislature and the KHS Mock Trial Team. He served as Co-Captain of the Swim Team in 2012. He won the Harvard Book Award and was elected Governor of the Maine Model State Government in 2011. Ed will attend Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, to study engineering.

    Janelle Elizabeth Sherman of Kennebunk is the daughter of Stephen and Jenny Sherman and is the Class Valedictorian. She was the Vice-President of the Interact Club for 2 years and was a member of the KHS Senate. Janelle has been an active volunteer in the Interact Club, at the Kennebunk Free Library and participated with Partners in Development to Guatemala in the spring of 2011. She received the Middlebury Book Award and the KHS Service Award. Janelle will be attending the University of New England to study psychology in the fall.

    Nathaniel P. Skillin of Kennebunk is the son of George and Penelope Skillin. He ranked 7th nationally in skiercross, participated in the Golf Team, four years of varsity tennis and was a team captain. Nat is a three year member of the KHS math team. He manages a landscaping business and works two other jobs in the summer. He is currently interning at the University of New England in the neuroscience department. Nathaniel plans to attend Tufts University to study Biomedical Engineering and Premed.

    Jason Small of Kennebunk is the son of Alan and Jan Small. Jason has participated in the Junior Achievement Titan Challenge, was Captain of the football and baseball teams and was a member of the Agilities Club. He will be attending Bentley University to major in business.

    Amanda Sparks of Kennebunk is the daughter of Darrell and Alisande Sparks. She was elected the secretary of NHS and has been the president of the Interact Club for 3 years. She has been dancing at the Sharon Arnold Lux School of Dance for 15 years. Amanda has participated in many community service activities with the Interact Club including volunteering at the Bon Appetite Soup Kitchen monthly, volunteering with the Animal Welfare Society, Community Harvest , United Way, Partners in Development (where she helped build homes in Guatemala), and the eKo Club. She has received both the Faculty Book Award and Williams College Book Award. Amanda will be attending the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, next year and is planning on majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in Environmental Engineering.

    Noah Vaccaro, of Kennebunk is the son of Kristin Clark and Leslie Vaccaro. Noah has been Vice President of Student Council and a 2 year member of the Class of 2012 Executive Council. He has been a powerful performer in 8 theater productions at KHS, a trombonist in the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band, as well as a tenor in Chamber Choir. Noah will be attending the University of Vermont.

    Forrest Wight of Kennebunkport is the son of Karen and Mark Sutton and Barry and Lynn Wight. He has been a member of Captains' Club, Captain of the Varsity Ski Team and has participated in baseball and football. Forrest will be studying Chemical Engineering at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C.
