Maine's Providers of Last Resort telephone service

State and federal mandates require all Mainers have access to basic telephone service, known as universal service. In Maine, those mandates obligate six rural telephone companies and FairPoint Communications to provide this Provider of Last Resort service regardless of where someone lives. The map shows the telephone exchanges and each company's service territory. The white areas are unserved.
