BRIDGTON—The Western Maine Conference (WMC) held its annual Championship at Shawnee Peak on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Both Lake Region and Gray-New Gloucester dispatched contingents to the slopes, and both competed proudly.

In the Girls Slalom, Fryeburg’s Brooke Juneau took first, in 1:41.35. Lakers Paige Davis and Alli Vogel, meanwhile, claimed fourth (1:47.35) and seventh (1:55.08), respectively. G-NG’s Sydney Garcia finished 18th (2:13.64) while fellow Patriot Hannah Biron came in 21st (2:22.05).

Meanwhile, Laker Logan Davis turned in his team’s best performance in the Boys Slalom, second (1:32.05). Teammates Brandon Beadnell and Casey Berger finished 12th (1:49.72) and 31st (2:05.13). Kyle Mercier led the huge G-NG outfit, finishing in 14th (1:50.17), with Patriot Keegan Brooks not far behind in 16th (1:53.02). Jacob Butler, Carson McEvoy, Alec Brooks, Jeremy Mazur and others all filled out the later rankings. Cape Elizabeth’s Killian Lathrop won the race in 1:29.45.

Juneau also won the Girls Giant Slalom (1:22.72); Davis trailed her in the No. 2 spot by less than a second and a half (1:24.20). Vogel earned eighth (1:33.43). GNGers Garcia and Biron came in 21st and 24th, respectively.

Logan Davis, over on the boys side of things, won the Giant Slalom, outpacing Lathrop by a scant .31 seconds: 1:18.06 to 1:18.37. Beadnell came in 15th in the GS and Berger 20th. G-NG’s Mercier broke the top 10, claiming exactly 10th (1:24.98). Brooks trailed in 35th.
