Letter to the editor: Special investigation needed into lies that Clinton, staff told FBI
According to the Dec. 7 Another View guest editorial from The Washington Post, the rule of law is “the foundation of our democracy.” I completely agree. If so, then a special counsel must be appointed to investigate the FBI’s so far successful whitewashing of clearly criminal behavior by Hillary Clinton and her staff, who, I […]

Letter to the editor: Two questions for Sen. Collins on where her loyalties really lie
As an independent voter, I was concerned about the tax bill, and prior to the Senate vote I contacted Sen. Susan Collins to share my concerns. I asked her to let me know how many of her constituents contacted her in favor of the tax bill and how many were opposed. A rough estimate of […]

Susan Collins for voting in support of the tax reform bill that passed in the U.S. Senate – a vote that I am thankful for as a small-business […]

Letter to the editor: Airbnb-type rentals drive apartment rents higher
Re: “Short-term rentals surge, but registrations lag in Portland” (Dec. 4): Although Portland has taken some limited steps that are intended, in some way, to deal with the problem of short-term rentals through companies like Airbnb, these rentals are causing a growing crisis in the city. Given the choice of renting an apartment for $1,200 […]

Letter to the editor: If president gropes, why is there a different standard?
In light of all the incidents of well-known men who have lost their jobs because of groping, why are we not looking at our own president and other politicians, who just shrug it off? Do these other organizations hold their employees to higher standards than we do our politicians? Tsk, tsk! Karen Curran Portland

A nice gesture might be for each of them to make donations to the Treasury Department to help pay down the $1 trillion deficit increase they are creating.
