Steam billows out the top of the Finnish-style cedar sauna during dusk on the wooded property at Nurture through Nature in Denmark. The spa offers community days on Saturdays from 4 to 6 p.m. for $15 a person through the end of March, as well as booking private saunas.
Jesse Stevens, who came from the Maine town of Sweden to visit Nurture through Nature in Denmark, covers himself in snow to cool off from the wood-fired sauna.
Nina Britton is the sauna keeper at Nurture through Nature. She hikes to a local brook to gather fresh water, and also carries the wood to stoke the fire in the sauna.
Nicole French of Gorham emerged from a sauna that reaches over 160 degrees and plunked down in the snow to cool off.
