Angela Vanier of Westbrook may not know much Spanish, but she’s become a familiar figure to fans of a Mexican baseball team while watching her hard-hitting boyfriend, Anthony D’Alfonso of Westbrook.

Angela Vanier and Anthony D’Alfonso have learned how to make do, whether it’s living in a trailer park in Yuma, Ariz., or getting by as a rare American in a Mexican baseball league.

Back in 2009, Anthony D’Alfonso was a key player for the University of Southern Maine. He wasn’t drafted but that hasn’t stopped him from chasing a pro career. Not a bit.

The team is the San Luis de Colorado Algonderos. Not the most well-known but possibly a gateway for a Maine native.
