Jacob Tyler Michaud, 22, of Portland says he wants President Obama to address the economy and small businesses when he gives his State of the Union speech Tuesday night. He says he agrees with the president's idea of shifting the income tax burden from middle class workers to higher earners, "but in regards to what’s best or what’s right, I don’t know. Taxes are tricky.”
Pamela Lanz, 64, of Gorham wants President Obama's State of the Union speech Tuesday to address issues of immigration and "reversing the gap between rich and poor." She said, “I think a lot of things he’s tried have been stymied ... But I think his heart is in the right place.”
Terrence Wolfe, 19, of Portland says he would like President Obama to address protecting the rights of gay and transgendered workers in his State of the Union speech.
Emily Joy, 27, of Westbrook says she would like President Obama to address the issues of ISIS and national defense in his State of the Union speech. She said she doesn’t believe the president has been listening to the people.
Jack Rozelle, 69, of Portland said he wants President Obama to address issues of fighting wars overseas and national defense in his State of the Union speech. “I’d like to hear him say he is going to accomplish something instead of vetoing or side-stepping (Congress) or not being cooperative,” said Rozelle.
Alexandra Welch, 17, a senior at Lincoln Academy in Damariscotta, says she would like President Obama to address issues of education and prison reform in his State of the Union speech Tuesday night. She said, “I don’t think you necessarily need to go to college for a job, especially in Maine, but it is important to have well-educated citizens."
