Rows of seats are empty for the Portland Pirates' game against the Springfield Falcons on Jan. 2, a Friday night. The Pirates are averaging just 2,784 fans per home game, but they’re up nearly 600 over last year’s average at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston.
Seats are empty in the Cross Insurance Arena as the Portland Pirates host the Springfield Falcons on Jan. 2. “We’d obviously love to see more people in the building,” said Brad Church, the team’s chief operating officer.
The Pirates, back in Portland after playing their home games in Lewiston last season, are last among the 30 American Hockey League clubs in attendance, averaging 2,784 fans per game.
