Mookie Betts showed his promise with the Portland Sea Dogs this season. He was quickly promoted to Pawtucket and is in a Red Sox uniform for Saturday’s game against the Yankees.

Portland’s Mookie Betts is the first out of an eighth-inning double play turned by Trenton Thunder shortstop Carmen Angelini in a 2-1 loss to the Sea Dogs on Sunday. Betts went 1 for 3 and played center field for the first time as a professional. According to a Red Sox official, the hot-hitting prospect is being “exposed” to the outfield.
Portland Sea Dogs infielder Sean Coyle is 7 for 14 since being activated from the disabled list April 10. In 21 games this season he is batting .352 with three home runs. Coyle was drafted as a shortstop, but has played second and third.

Luis Diaz, receiving an opportunity with the Portland Sea Dogs after Mickey Pena received a 100-game suspension, is looking like Double-A may be a quick pit stop. Diaz has won his first two starts with a 1.29 ERA. The Red Sox have to decide whether to put him on the 40-man roster.
