About the Candidate

Two internship opportunities in graduate school, one with U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and one with the town of Gray, expanded my ability and knowledge of how to thoughtfully interact with constituents.

Master’s degree in policy, planning, and management with a focus in public and nonprofit management from Muskie School & Cutler Institute at the University of Southern Maine; bachelor’s degree in communication and journalism from the University of Maine at Presque Isle

Top three priorities

1. Constituents deserve reliable representation that will address concerns and advocate for their needs.

2. I would also prioritize fostering greater public participation in decision-making processes through tools such as online surveys, social media and public comment opportunities.

3. Another priority is sustainability and environmental stewardship. Preserving Poland’s beautiful natural areas for future generations is important to me as someone who hopes to remain in Poland for many years to come.

Why are you running?

I believe in representation without an agenda. When elected, I will commit to listening to the words of residents and prioritize efforts to find solutions that align with residents’ needs. I believe in thoughtful civic engagement and using resources wisely. I will conscientiously assist in the responsible management of public resources for future generations. I believe in smart and sustainable growth. I welcome initiatives that support the development and growth of small and local businesses.

What is the biggest challenge facing your community? The biggest opportunity?

The biggest challenge we face is rising costs. Contracted services are more expensive, electricity rates are rising and the overall costs for running a municipality are increasing. An opportunity could be supporting efforts to review and update programming that supports residents. Accessibility to General Assistance programs should be analyzed. Steps should be taken to ensure programming comprehensively addresses current conditions. Volunteer-based programming may also be worth exploring.

If you could change one thing about how your community functions, what would it be and why?

Having worked in some capacity with over 50 towns in western Maine in my professional role, I see the good work Poland is doing already. One area I would support growth in would be capacity building in a municipal context: looking at how to enhance skills, knowledge and resources in order to drive sustainable community development and improve the ability to address challenges through creative solutions.

Do you support more development in your community? Why or why not?

I support local small business development initiatives in my community. It is important that Poland is a place for established local businesses to flourish and one that prospective businesses feel drawn to. Overall, I support smart and sustainable growth that promotes a resilient community. Development priorities should reflect the needs of current and future residents. Initiatives should improve the quality of life for all, promote healthy behaviors and mind the natural environment.
