Maine will vote on one of its two U.S. Senate seats. Senators make $174,000 per year and serve six-year terms. The U.S. Senate has the power to confirm presidential appointments to key posts such as the Cabinet and Supreme Court.

After winning the June 9 primary to become the Maine Democrats’ nominee to challenge incumbent Sen. Susan Collins in November, candidate Graham Platner dropped out of the race following allegations of sexual misconduct. Now, the party will host a convention to choose who will replace Platner on the ballot. Read more about the nominating process here.
