Top Three Priorities
My top three priorities would be the safety of the students who are currently in buildings that have ventilation issues; the second is student outcomes — improving literacy, math proficiency and career readiness/life skills; the last focus would be fiscal responsibility and transparency.
Why are you running?
I am running for school board in hopes to use my skills and knowledge to assist with the concerns of the community while not impacting the students’ education.
What is the biggest challenge facing your area’s schools? The biggest opportunity?
The biggest challenge for the RSU is money. The community is struggling to be able to afford day-to-day life and the rising costs of everything, including the budget. This is causing a lot of stress on our older generation as well a younger generation who have just started a family. The biggest opportunity would be delivering great outcomes for every student, preparing them for either college or the workforce.
If you could change one thing about how your local schools function, what would it be and why?
Build a system of ongoing teacher support, not just one-time development days. Our teachers work hard and need the support to continue to drive great results.
Do you think the state government is too involved in local schooling? Not involved enough? The right amount of involved? Explain your answer.
I feel that the state plays an important role in setting standards and ensuring fairness, but local educators and communities are best positioned to decide how to meet those goals. We need less micromanagement and more flexibility paired with clear accountability to get results.
