Why do you TRI? Who inspires you? To celebrate the 19th Annual Tri for a Cure, we’re publishing an advertiser supported Cheer Section on Friday, July 10 with your personal motivations, inspiring congratulations and simple “You go, girl!” messages.
Maine Cancer Foundation (MCF) is dedicated to reducing cancer incidence and mortality rates in Maine. 100% of the funds they raise are invested back into our communities to benefit the people of Maine.
Tri for a Cure is MCF’s largest annual fundraiser, with a goal of over $2 million. Each year, over 1,200 women gather in South Portland to swim, bike and run to benefit MCF and its mission of funding the most promising and effective programs that advance cancer prevention, increase screening and improve access to care for all Maine people.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
