Strong showings at indoor track New Englands
Several local track and field athletes turned heads at last weekend’s New England indoor track and field championship meet in Boston. Falmouth’s 4×200 relay team (Matt Polewaczyk, Nick Sanzari, Nigel Dunn and Tony St. Angelo) finished third in 1 minute, 31.83 seconds. Freeport’s Henry Jaques came in 12th in the two-mile (9:44.62). Chandler Vincent came in 18th in the mile (4:33.70). Greely’s Ryan Morrison was 22nd in the 1,000 (2:41.38). The Rangers 4×800 relay team (Chris Perry, Kyle Hansen, Max Stickney and Morrison) came in 24th (8:41.37). Yarmouth’s Luke Laverdiere placed 16th in the two-mile (9:54.93). On the girls’ side, Yarmouth’s Emma Egan was runner-up in the high jump (5 feet-5 inches). Greely’s Katherine Leggat-Batt came in 12th in the two-mile (11:11.44). Carolyn Todd finished 16th in the mile (5:24.10). Jocelyn Mitiguy was 18th in the 55 hurdles (9.10 seconds). Falmouth’s Gina Pardi came in 19th in the mile (5:55.95). Lydia Farmer tied for 20th in the long jump (15-10.5). The Yachtsmen’s 4×200 relay (Caitlyn Camelio, Pardi, Farmer and Emma England) placed 23rd (1:51.79). Freeport’s 4×800 relay squad (Sophie Hight, Hannah Schnyder, Laura Pierce and Maddie Squibb) came in 25th (10:39.12).
Familiar names on 2016 Maine Basketball Hall of Fame class
Former Greely standout Harland Storey and one-time Falmouth star John Jordan are among the class of new inductees to the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame. Storey was an All-State player for the Rangers and went on to become a Division III All-American at Colby College in Waterville. Jordan, a 6-foot-7-inch center, made a mark with the Yachtsmen and at the University of Southern Maine. The new class will be inducted in August at a ceremony in Bangor.
Girls’ lacrosse officials needed
The Maine Women’s Lacrosse Officials’ Association is offering classes for adults who want to officiate girls’ lacrosse this spring. Classes will be held at four different locations, including Falmouth High School and Thornton Academy in Saco. The cost for the course is $55. FMI, 721-0708 ormainewloa.com.
