Change of seasons

Crisp. The air, the apples … It’s all good. But geez did it come on suddenly! Just a couple of weeks ago we were attempting to escape the oppressive heat with boat rides and water skiing. I do love sweaters and boots though, but my summer clothes still occupy my drawers. Every time I think about putting them away, we seem to get a hot day. I fear not this time. I think the chill is here to stay.

Business is booming

Like the weather lately, it’s as if overnight several new businesses have sprung up in Naples. Of course, we have been watching the progress of the new big box stores like Dunkin Donuts and Family Dollar.

I do not oppose the opening of these stores in our town. Being from a big city, I appreciate convenience. But I also greatly appreciate small businesses and the quality and service they have to offer.

I speak of two businesses that recently graced Naples with their health oriented services. Cream of the Crop, located at the corner of Sand Road and Route 302 offers delicious fresh juices and baked goods. Debbie Lockhart, who opened the business in July, promises lunch items will soon be added to the menu, and it will be a year-round business. For more information, visit their Facebook page and LIKE!

Heather Elle Anderson is the proud owner of Pure Spa, located on Route 302 right after Moose Landing Marina, on the opposite side of the street. Heather offers a slice of paradise at her spa, with foot soaks, facials, and other amazing skin and body treatments. What sets her business apart are her products, which are all natural. Heather’s goal is to make caring for your skin in a natural, environmentally way, affordable. For more information call 693-3034.

Healthy kids

I love that the health movement is taking hold here in Naples, even with our youth. SAD 61’s After Care program is hosting fun and interactive nutrition workshops this week at its site at the Naples Village Green’s Grange Hall. Kids will learn about healthy food choices and how those choices make an impact on their growing bodies. Fruit and veggie snacks, of course, will be provided.

Stuff the truck

The Lake Region Hunger Initiative is asking for help from everyone in the Lake Region. Their goal is to fill a 53-foot truck from Hannaford with non-perishable food items on Friday, Sept. 26. Just bring your donation to the Bridgton Hannaford to help Knock out Hunger in the Lake Region. All proceeds will benefit Good Shepherd Food Bank and local food pantries.
