Each year at Winterfest, Scarborough Community Services holds competitions for children, including a snow sculpture contest, belly buster contest, cardboard sled races, and turkey bowling, in which winners receive prize packets sponsored by local businesses.
In addition to these events, Community Services also holds ice skating competitions, like speed skating, backward skating, slalom skating, and an obstacle course. All children who participate are timed and awarded points. The boy and girl (in each grade level) with the most points becomes King and Queen of Winterfest.
