Brodee James Britland is Maine’s second baby of 2008, born at 1:08 a.m on Jan. 1 at Mercy Hospital. “Everything went very well. My sister and one of my close friends were there for the whole thing,” said Brodee’s mother, Kalen Britland of South Portland. Joilee Drew Britland, 2 1/2, who is holding her new brother, “has been a great help since we came home on Wednesday. She makes bottles and diapers for all of her baby dolls, but since we’ve been home she only has one baby – baby brother!” said her mother. The baby’s father is Andrew Wakefield of West Baldwin. The first baby born in the state was Averie Gagnon, who was delivered at 12:16 a.m. at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Averie is the first girl and third child of Ben and Arica Gagnon of West Enfield.
