SCARBOROUGH – Residents are invited to attend some public comment sessions next week on a vision and plan for Scarborough’s economic growth.
The sessions will be held at Town Hall in the Town Council chambers. The first session will be on Monday, Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the second one will be held Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
A draft of the Economic Vision & Plan for the Town of Scarborough can be viewed at:
www.ScarboroughEconomicDevelopment.com/Vision.aspx.
The draft document is the result of a year-long, joint endeavor by the Scarborough Economic Development Corporation and the Scarborough Community Chamber to put in writing a long-term economic development vision for Scarborough and a plan for how to achieve that vision.
The draft is now being sent out to key stakeholders and the public for comment by Dec. 1. The goal is to have a final document in place by the end of 2009 or early in 2010.
There are 10 proposals in the draft. They call for such things as aggressive marketing of Scarborough as a place to live, work and do business. They also say Scarborough will be a leader in environmentally- friendly policies and practices and that the town should plan for future transportation and infrastructure needs. The plan also calls for development consistent with the town’s comprehensive plan, which is currently being updated, and for strong support for education.
