SACO — Traffic on Route 1 was rerouted for about four hours Wednesday morning after a utility pole was struck and damaged.
At 7:35 a.m. Wednesday, a black 2009 Ford F350 pick-up truck towing a trailer and operated by Paul Rizzo, 57, of 46 Abbott Road Dedham, Massachusetts, struck a utility pole just off the roadway near the Tourist Haven Motel, according to a press release from Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Holland.
The pole snapped in half, causing low-hanging wires, Holland added.
The section of Route One was closed while the pole was replaced and associated utility repairs were made. Damage to the trailer is estimated at $500 and replacement of the pole and associated repair costs is estimated to be more than $3,000, Holland concluded.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
