SANFORD — Frances (Fran) Louise Byam, 88, of Sanford, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 3 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.
Frances was born in Edgartown, Massachusetts on Nov. 26, 1926 to Capt. William H. and Adelaide Louise (Pike) Stanley. Her family moved to Camden, where Fran attended local schools, graduating from Camden High School in 1946.
Fran married William Avery Smith and lived in Camden until his death on Sept. 6, 1964.
She later met and married Robert S. Byam, Sr. and they lived in Kingfield before purchasing and restoring an old farm in Acton, on Hilton Ridge, where they resided until his death in 1998.
Byam was a member of the Liberty Chapel Congregational Church in Milton Mills, New Hampshire.
Figure skating was her life-long joy and she participated in the sport as long as she was able.
She is predeceased by: her two husbands; and a step-daughter, Melissa W. Byam.
She is survived by: her sister-in-law, Nancy B. Stanley, and nephew, Allison D. Stanley, both of Barrington Passage, Nova Scotia, Canada; and four step-children, Hillary Lukow, Robert S. Byam Jr., Roger E. Byam and Jessica A. Klein.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden.
Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Services Sanford-Springvale.
