BIDDEFORD — Kohl’s Department Stores reopened its Biddeford location Sunday, and a grand opening is set for Friday, Sept. 26.

The 66,000-square-foot store at 75 Gateway Plaza, off Route 111 in the Biddeford Gateway shopping center, will feature updated check-out stations, newly designed shopping carts and strollers, redesigned fitting rooms and beauty department, fitting room lounges in misses and juniors, an expanded customer service area located at the front of the store, in-store Kohl’s Kiosks, electronic signs in all departments, and free Wi-Fi throughout the building.

In addition, the store was built according to a prototype that received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification at the Gold level from the U.S. Green Building Council and will pursue LEED certification in the coming months. Features of Kohl’s LEED stores include use of more than 20 percent recycled and 20 percent regionally sourced (by cost) building materials, use of a cool white ENERGY STAR-rated roof and water-efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures, among many other attributes.

Kohl’s operates 1,160 stores across 49 states, including five in Maine, offering clothing and housewares.
