AUGUSTA — Last spring, Maine Municipal Association invited the three leading candidates for governor to meet with its 12-member Executive Committee during the summer and discuss municipal issues.
Two candidates accepted the invitations. Independent Eliot Cutler met with the committee Aug. 1, while U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud met with the committee on Aug. 28. Both candidates are featured in hour-long videos ”“ broken into 20-minute segments ”“ which are available for viewing by MMA members and the public online at www.memun.org.
Many topics were addressed during the meetings, including general assistance and immigration, municipal revenue sharing, K-12 public education, and the conditions of roads and bridges in Maine.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
