BIDDEFORD — The New England regional director for the Small Business Administration, Seth Goodall, made a visit to Biddeford Monday to speak with local business owners and economic development officials.

Goodall listened Monday morning to concerns from local businesses and fielded questions at a roundtable discussion at the Biddeford-Saco Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and discussed financial and educational programs available to small businesses.

Goodall said these sorts of meetings are a good way to get input from local business communities.

Goodall said the federal agency wants to help small businesses because they are “the engines of our economy.”

Chamber Executive Director Craig Pendleton said with the Maine Energy waste incinerator no longer operating at Lincoln Street, the Biddeford-Saco area is “going to explode,” so business leaders need to think about what they want for the community’s future. He said Monday’s meeting was a good opportunity to have an open discussion with Goodall.

“There’s a lot of good stuff going on in Biddeford and Saco, and there’s a lot of stuff to be proud of,” said Pendleton.

Goodall also toured local businesses after the meeting.
