On Aug. 6, Capt. Tom Mansfield, right, and Crewman Shane Brooks of the F/V Allyson, which moors in the Kennebunk River in Kennebunkport, placed first in the Sturdivant Island Tuna Tournament for bringing in a giant blue fin tuna weighing in at 817 pounds and measuring 109 inches. “The fish was only three pounds short of beating the Maine state record,” Mansfield said.

The seasoned York County fishermen took home a prize of $6,200.

The nonprofit Sturdivant Island Tuna Tournament was founded in 1998. With the help of tournament participants and sponsors, the tournament has been able to contribute over $500,000 to charitable organizations in the form of scholarships over the years.
