SANFORD — A number of York County residents can get free help filling out their federal and state tax returns at York County Community Action Corporation’s “Super Saturday” event Feb. 10.

The tax-prep service will begin at 9 a.m. at YCCAC’s head office at 6 Spruce St. in Sanford and the last appointments will be scheduled for 2 p.m., said agency spokesman Brad Bohon.

He said there will be six or more seasoned IRS tax preparers available.

Feb. 10 is the only “Super Saturday” scheduled by the agency this year. However, YCCAC is booking weekday appointments for tax return preparation in both their Biddeford and Sanford offices through April 17.

“York County CA$H, a program of the YCCAC Economic Opportunity program, provides free preparation of basic federal and state tax returns for those with adjusted gross income below $54,000, who have had a “life event”— a major event that changes a person’s status or circumstances, such as giving birth, marriage, divorce, death of spouse, loss of job — or who have participated in YCCAC services in the past,” said Bohon in a news release. “All tax prep services are provided by IRS-certified volunteers.

He said tax prep volunteers can help clients determine special tax credit egibility, like the earned income tax credit, child tax credit or credits for the elderly or disabled.

Tax-services cannot be provided for the self-employed.

As well as the “usual” tax return documents, people must present an original social security card and a photo ID at the time of their appointment, Bohon said.
