
He was born June 23, 1923, in Sanford, the son of Paul and Serverine (Allaire)
LaRose.
He attended local schools and served his country in World War II and the Korean
War. He was in the Army Air Corp., Air
Force and Army.
Leo completed his military career in the
Army National Guard, retiring with over 35 years of service to his country in Europe, Asia, the U.S. and Australia. He later worked for Capital Taxi, eventually buying the business and running it for several years. He also worked security at Nasson College.
Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, and watching old Westerns and weekly Mass on television.
Leo was a charter member of the Sanford Am Vets, and a lifetime member of the Sanford VFW. In recent years, he was a member of the Lebanon American Legion Post 214, which honored him in 2009 with an eagle cane made by the Maine Wood Carvers Association. Leo also received a quilt of valor in a 2014 ceremony in recognition of years of service to his country.
He was a loving son, grandson, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife of 59 years, Mildred (Godin) LaRose; an infant son, Leo LaRose Jr.; a stepmother, Johanna (Sicard) LaRose; brothers Arthur, Donald and Richard LaRose; and son-inlaws Butch Rounds and Charles Kirkpatrick.
He is survived by: five children and their spouses, Theresa Kirkpatrick, David and Irene Daney, and Larry and Rose Woods, all of Lebanon, Leo and Diane LaRose of Illinois, and Normand and Jeannine Lambert of Florida; two brothers, Paul LaRose and Albert and spouse Sharon LaRose; 13 grandchildren and their significant others, James and Christina Kelley, Natasha and Jon Kinney, Jennie and Don Charette, and Sabrina and Adam Fleming, all of Maine, Lisa Ponce of California, Tim Rounds and Missy and Ted Ivey, all of Tennessee, Normand and Shana Lambert, Brien Lambert, Julie and Matt Riegel, and Angel and Chris Cooper, all of Florida, Marcy and John Cook of New Hampshire, and Robert and Deserae Kelley of Montana; and 11 step-grandchildren, Fred, Sean and Ryan Kirkpatrick, Melissa Waller, Nick Mosley, Michelle Topp, David Jr., Heather, Aaron and James Daney, and Torri McGraw.
He was also blessed with many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, North Avenue, Sanford. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
