KENNEBUNK — Kennebunk police have named Andrew Payson, 51, of Hopkinton, Massachusetts as the surfer who died on Gooch’s Beach last Wednesday. Cause of death is still pending an official report from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Payson had been surfing alone off Narragansett Point for an undetermined period of time when he was found unconscious by beachgoers who immediately began performing CPR. He was transported to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford where he was pronounced dead.
According to an obituary published in the Journal yesterday, Kennebunk was Payson’s “favorite place” where he often brought his family. A father of two, Payson was a 14-year employee of Kronos in Chelmsford, Massachusetts who loved spending time with his children.
