BOWDOINHAM FIRE DEPARTMENT members tried Monday to ignite and burn a small field by Greenleaf Apartments on Preble Road in Bowdoinham on behalf of Betty Crowley, property manager, who said the field is encroaching onto a mowed area nearby, presenting fire anfd tick dangers. Despite firefighters' best efforts, the fires they started in the tall grass repeatedly fizzled. Bowdoinham Fire Chief Arthur Frizzle said the ground is too wet and that the department would try again in the spring.
