School is back in session, and many teachers ask their classes the age-old question, “What did you do this summer?”
The grandchildren of Jean and Sam Dunlap of Beverly Hills, Fla., visiting from Maine, did something different.
Haleigh Willis, 12, Paige Willis, 11, Garrett Warner, 7, children of Chris Warner and Michele King; and Logan Hudson, 17, daughter of Steve Warner and Kelly Perry, filled buckets for the homeless. The five-gallon buckets, donated by The Home Depot of Crystal River, Fla., were filled with personal care items and “some fun stuff.” It became quite a project in deciding what was needed for each bucket.
Nana and Papa Dunlap had been collecting stuff for several weeks before the children came down to visit. The kids felt there should be “boy” buckets and “girl” buckets, so they would be more personal. They also put little notes in some of the buckets, just to say “hi.”
Nana and Papa, with their grandchildren, delivered the buckets to the Family Resource Center in Hernando, Fla., for director Ginger West to distribute. The Family
Resource Center provides various opportunities for the homeless and less fortunate.
The kids were so happy doing the project, they can’t wait for next summer. They felt so good about doing something for people in their community.
