John H. Koehling Sr. “Gado”, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at his home in Phippsburg. He was born on January 25, 1946, to James H. and Kathleen Koehling.
John married Deborah L. Morey on December 14, 1967.
John worked for Gunite, then became self-employed as a fisherman, woodsman, and did construction among other things.
John was a kind and generous man who loved the simple things in life. He enjoyed driving the back roads of Maine and sitting on the porch of the home he and Debbie built overlooking their man-made pond. He loved visiting with family and friends, sharing his stories and wisdom.
He was predeceased by his wife Debbie, his parents James and Kathleen, four brothers, two sisters, and his great-grandson Michael.
He is survived by his son, John H. Koehling Jr. (Donna) of Sebasco, his daughter Cynthia L. Martin (Todd) of Oxford, and his daughter Lisa M. Bissonnette (Roland) of Gaffney, S.C., his brothers, James H. Koehling Jr. of Bath, Donald Koehling Sr. of Phippsburg and his sister Nancy Desjardins of Bath, his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, who were the light of his life, nieces and nephews, who he thought the world of, and many more family and friends that he held close to his heart.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
