RICHMOND
Richmond police arrested an 18-year-old man and charged him with domestic violence assault after he allegedly assaulted and left bite marks on his girlfriend Monday night.
Richmond Police Chief Scott MacMaster said officer Doug Bellevue responded to an apartment complex on Front Street at around 8:36 p.m., after a neighbor reported hearing screaming and yelling. Bellevue arrived and could hear voices from the rear of the apartment building where he noticed the glass had been kicked in on a French-style door and a muddy footprint on the glass on the floor.
“He could hear yelling so he reached in, unlocked the door and identified himself as an officer,” MacMaster said. “At that point he came into contact with a female, who he determined to be the victim of the assault.”
The victim, MacMaster said, was a 42-year-old woman who lives at the apartment where he said Nicholas Rudolph, 18, occasionally visits or stays. Rudolph, who police described as a transient, reportedly became angry at her when she returned home late.
“She had injuries including bite marks on her shoulder and on the side of her face,” MacMaster said of the victim, who was transported to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta and later released.
Rudolph was in the apartment when Bellevue entered, MacMaster said.
Also responding was Deputy Brian Quinn of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department.
MacMaster said Rudolph approached the deputy in a threatening manner, was told to sit down and complied, “but then he mentioned that he had some ‘bloods’ coming next week and that they would put a bullet in (Bellevue’s) head, and his daughter,” although Bellevue doesn’t have a daughter.
Rudolph was taken into custody and transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for observation, MacMaster said.
Once medically cleared, he was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, charged with domestic violence assault, aggravated criminal trespass and obstructing report of a crime for allegedly “shattering” the phone on the counter.
Bail was set at $5,000 cash and Rudolph was given a West Bath District Court date of Sept. 3.
