He was born in Washington, D.C., on July 6, 1924, and served three years in the Army Air Corps 3rd Combat Cargo Group in World War II. He married Edith Marie Pauls in 1947, and they raised eight children together. After the war, he worked at the U.S. Department of Commerce until his retirement. In 1979, he moved with his wife to Bath, Maine, where they remained until 2010.
He is survived by his wife, 8 children, 15 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren.
