BRUNSWICK
With blizzard-like conditions hampering the Mid-coast and throughout all of Maine on Thursday, a few sporting events were postponed or canceled all together.
The second day of the Brunswick High School girls hockey “Dragon Tournament” at Sidney J. Watson Arena was canceled, with the Dragons earning two wins in the event, 8-2 over Bonny Eagle/Gorham and 1-0 over St. Dom’s, on Wednesday.
The Brunswick boys hockey team had its Thursday showdown with Waterville at Colby College moved to today, with the puck set to drop at 11 a.m., while the Dragons’ indoor track meet at Bowdoin College’s Farley Field House was moved to today, combining with Mt. Ararat to form a rather large meet. The festivities were slated to begin at 10 a.m.
The Cony-Mt. Ararat boys and girls basketball contests were moved. The Rams will visit the undefeated Eagle girls tonight at 7 p.m. in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference action, while the Mt. Ararat boys will head to Augusta on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
The Maine Central Institute- Morse basketball teams were slated to be played Thursday, but the squads will have to wait nine days. The Shipbuilder boys host MCI on Jan. 5, while the girls head to MCI the same day. Times will be announced.
And, the Richmond boys and girls just can’t seem to get the East-West Conference contest against Valley in. This is the second time the doubleheader has been postponed. This time, the teams are planning on meeting at Richmond on Monday, with the girls at 10 a.m. and the boys at 11:30 a.m.
Events still scheduled for today include the Lewiston boys at Brunswick, 7 p.m.; Brunswick girls at Lewiston, 7 p.m.; Lewiston girls hockey at Brunswick, 2:45 p.m., Leavitt/ Edward Little girls hockey at Mt. Ararat, 1 p.m.; the St. Dom’s Boys and Girls Christmas Tournament, which includes the Freeport boys at 12:15 p.m. and 4:35 p.m.; at Auburn, the Central Maine Community College Holiday Tournament, with the Lisbon girls (1 p.m. and 4 p.m.) and Freeport girls (2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.) in action; and the Mt. Ararat and Lisbon wrestling teams at the Noble Tournament at 10 a.m., while the Morse grapplers head to MCI for the Mid-State Tournament at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday slate
The Bowdoin women’s basketball team returns from its break with the Bowdoin Holiday Invitational as Clarkson pays a visit at 2 p.m.
The Morse boys and girls basketball squads are in doubleheader action, with Belfast coming to Bath. The Shipbuilder girls play at noon, followed by the boys in varsity play.
The Richmond girls basketball team plays Madison (9 a.m.) and Lawrence (2:30 p.m.) at the Capital City Basketball Classic at the Augusta Civic Center.
In hockey action, the Polar Bear women are in Wisconsin to take on St. Norbert at 5 p.m., and the Mt. Ararat/Lisbon hockey boys head to the Ice Vault in Hallowell to take on Cony at 5:30 p.m. in an Eastern A battle.
