AUGUSTA (AP) — A Maine committee charged with studying the impacts of ocean acidification on the state’s environment is ready to vote on its recommendations to the state legislature.

The Maine Ocean Acidification Study Commission is meeting to vote on recommendations on Monday. The 16-member council’s report will go to the state Legislature’s Marine Resources Committee.

The panel was tasked with studying the effects of ocean acidification on shellfisheries and ecosystems in Maine. State officials say the commission is the first of its kind in the eastern United States. Monday is scheduled to be its final meeting.
