TOPSHAM — The League of Women Voters of the Brunswick Area and the Topsham Public Library have canceled a forum for candidates for the Topsham Board of Selectmen.
The forum was scheduled to take place tonight, Monday, Oct. 27 at Topsham’s municipal building. There are three candidates running for two available seats on the Board of Selectmen.
According to a press release issued by the League of Women Voters of the Brunswick Area, only one candidate, David Douglass, accepted the invitation to participate in the forum.
“Under League policy, a forum cannot take place if only one candidate participates,” the release states.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
