AUGUSTA (AP) — The suspect in a weekend stabbing in Augusta has been taken into custody after a brief standoff with police.
Deputy Chief Jared Mills says officers acting on a tip went to an apartment on Cedar Street at about 7:30 p.m. Monday and knocked on the locked door.
The suspect, 34-year-old Jason Boucher, did not respond. Police evacuated other tenants from the building and about 30 minutes later Boucher emerged and was taken into custody without incident.
Police allege Boucher stabbed a 42-year-old Sidney several times in the neck, chest and face on Saturday night. The victim survived.
Police tell the Kennebec Journal that Boucher is charged with elevated aggravated assault.
He was taken to the hospital after his arrest and it’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
