FRYEBURG

Police in Fryeburg, Maine, say a man has been rescued from the Saco River and treated for hypothermia after he fell in the water.

Acting Police Chief Sgt. Josh Potvin tells WMWVFM the man had been paddling with others when the group ran into a sudden hailstorm on the river that flipped their boat on Sunday afternoon. The group had deployed their boat at Lovewell pond Landing.

The 50-year-old man told rescuers he nearly drowned after swallowing a lot of water and becoming extremely tired from trying to fight the current.

Potvin says the man, whose name was not released, is extremely fortunate he wasn’t seriously hurt.
