BALDWIN (AP) — Maine state police are investigating the discovery of a woman’s body found buried on her son’s property.
Police identified the woman as 72-year-old Carolyn Farnell, who had been living with 43-year-old son Shawn Farnell in Baldwin. Police say they don’t suspect foul play and no one has been charged with a crime, but they are awaiting autopsy results from the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators say Carolyn Farnell had been in failing health and likely died last week before her son buried her on the property. Family members have informed detectives Farnell didn’t want to go to a hospital and desired to be buried on the property.
Police say they have not located a death certificate or permit to bury the body as required by state law.
