BRUNSWICK

A week after it officially went into business, the Brunswick Community Education Foundation’s website has gone live.

Executive Director Melissa Fochesato confirmed that the website, at www.brunswickcef.org, indeed was alive — although a click of the mouse will confirm that.

The foundation’s goal is to raise funds for school staff-led initiatives, activities to strengthen academic achievement and students’ “intellectual experience.”

Put another way, BCEF wants to be able to step in and serve the students when and where municipal budgeting falls short. Its board of directors set an initial fundraising goal of $50,000.

“We have reached out to dozens (of potential donors) over the past two months to gauge interest, and all have indicated a willingness to pledge,” Fochesato stated in an email to The Times Record.

To get the program started, each of the board members has pledged between $250-$1,000.

The board anticipates an introductory round of grant disbursements by November 2014; applications for the grants should be available by late March or early April, Fochesato said.
